Terrific for current and future lovers of Bloomington, IN
This book is a "must" for any person who loves, or will love, Bloomington, Indiana.

Bloomington, one of the premier communities in the United States, is a place that one visits and ends up staying because of its unmatched standard of living.

Offering the finest blend of small town ambiance and big city resources, Bloomington is home to Indiana University, which makes the community an oasis of sophistication in a traditional midwestern setting.

Complete Idiot's Guide to Planning a Trip Online (Complete Idiot's Guide)
Published in Paperback by Alpha Books (22 October, 1999)
Authors: Julia A. Cardis, Julia Cardis, and Kendall, II Smith
Average review score:

jam-packed online travel planning info!
This book was extremely informative. I was already doing online travel planning, but this book opened up so many new doors to me. My wife and I were amazed and pleased to discover through reading this book that so much of the details and the leg work of planning our honeymoon could be done online. We found out how to connect with other newlyweds and travelers through a message board that the author recommended, and got the inside scoop on everything from restaurants, nightclubs, romantic/secluded spots in our destination, as well as currency exchange info. and travel safety tips. The best thing about the book, though, was the author's offbeat sense of humor and keen eye for topnotch websites. A must read for any do-it-yourself travel planner.

A Comprehensive Guide to Designing Standards-Based Districts, Schools, and Classrooms
Published in Paperback by Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development (15 November, 1996)
Authors: Robert J. Marzano and John S. Kendall
Average review score:

Best generic text on standards...
This book is written by the co-authors of ASCD's content standards for K-12 education. This book addresses the other side of the coin: performance standards. How shall we evaluate what children do in school? What can teachers do, as part of their standards, to help youngsters perform well?

This is the best generic text in this area. The actual performance standards that you construct will be different--they will be your own--but this book will give teachers ways to begin implementing your standards. (Other sources include Modern Red Schoolhouse, Nashville TN, which has the most elegant methods available.) This book also addresses the needs of principals, curriculum coordinators, and district supervisors.

All in all, a good beginning...

The Convergence of Theology: A Festschrift Honoring Gerald O'Collins, S.J
Published in Paperback by Paulist Press (May, 2001)
Authors: Gerald O'Collins, Stephen T. Davis, George Carey, and Daniel Kendall
Average review score:

THEOLOGICAL ENCOUNTER --TRIBUTE TO GERRY O'COLLINS
This 2001 collection of essays from 22 living theologians is a celebration of the 70th birthday of a pastoral human being who is a renowned transcontinental scholar of our times. It is obvious that Fr. O'Collins' deep faith in Jesus Christ has personally touched each writer as they participate in his enthusiastic search for truth. The book is a theological treasure that will find a warm welcome in global circles. While I did not receive any new insights, the work tied together numerous concepts that are fundamental to Christian theology. I would highly recommend this "Festschrift" for Adult Lifelong Learning groups as well as for College courses. For all who engage in "faith seeking understanding," it treats many topics that provide stimulating reflection and discussion. It leaves one immersed in an experience of a lived community of believers. Happy Birthday, Gerry!

Authors: Jill De Vonyar, Richard Kendall, and Jill Devonyar
Average review score:

For anyone who appreciates the immortal art of Edgar Degas
Collaboratively produced by independent curator and ballet instructor Jill DeVonyar and art historian Richard Kendall, Degas And The Dance is a gorgeous volume filled cover to cover with spectacular color photographs of art and sculpture celebrating the dance, particularly ballet, as created by 19th century artist Edgar Degas. An insightful text provides informative commentary about the man called "the painter of dancers", and his body of work, enriches this vivid presentation of pieces that blend realism with occasional softening or abstracting elements. Degas And The Dance is enthusiastically recommended as being beautiful book just to page through, and a "must" for anyone who appreciates the immortal art of Edgar Degas.
